Regular Board Meeting, June 4, 2007

 

The Parsons City Council met for its regular monthly meeting, Monday, June 4, 2007 at 7:00 p .m. a the City meeting room Mayor Tim David Boaz called the meeting to order.

Community Forum: none

Communications from Mayor: Mayor Boaz asked Jason Rushing, Director of the UT Martin Parsons Office to give an update. Mr. Rushing stated that summer classes were beginning tonight at Riverside High School. The goal was to have 20 students with 68 credits.  The actual final count was 21 students with 72 credits.  Mr. Rushing also showed a preliminary drawing of the new UT campus to be built in Parsons.  The building will have 19,486 square feet with plenty of room to expand. Construction should be completed Jan. 2009.  All the instructors have been hired which is another plus for this area.

 Item 1: Second Reading on Ordinance No. 269 An Ordinance enacting a Municipal

               Tree Ordinance.  Motion to approve this ordinance on second reading by

Item 2:  Second Reading on Ordinance No. 270 An ordinance to amend the City of 

              Parsons Zoning Ordinance to allow bed and breakfast homestays as a use

              on appeals in an R-1 (low density residential) and R-2 Medium Density

              Residential District) Motion to approve this Ordinance on second reading

Regular Meeting June 4, 2007

 

New Business:

 

 

Item1:  Authorize the Mayor to transfer funds from the gas department to a

             checking account that has interest base on a money market rate.  Motion by

             Dwight Lancaster Second by Dale Reynolds   Vote:  All Ayes (This will be

              Retro back to May to the time that this was offered)

 

 

Item 2:  Authorize the Mayor to open a UT Martin Building Fund account, and for

               TLM Architects and Engineers to design building. Motion by Mark Davis

               for the Mayor to proceeded with this project. Second by Dale Reynolds

               Councilman Joe Don White question if the DC Joint Economic &

               Community Development should be gone thru. Mayor Boaz stated that a

               Inter-local agreement will probably be done since this involves money from

               Decatur County, City of Parsons, and Mr. Jim Ayers.  He also stated that

              he had been in touch with each one, and that they were in agreement, and

              ready to get things started. Vote:  Mark Davis –Aye,
